Do cell (mobile) phones interfere with the devices that we use for TENS, IF or NMES?

I was trying to find some info about this question that a therapist asked and I came up with nothing. Tim I looked at your FAQ’s under pacemakers as that might be the closest thing but that is in the body, whereas the cell phone would be maybe near (3-5 feet away) but not in a pocket or in the body? Could we have an email discussion and perhaps make a recommendation? Has anyone else heard of this? Thanks a bunch!

“Our acupuncturist has purchased an electric needle stimulator. In the instruction manual is says, "Do not use the product simultaneously with a high frequency device like a mobile phone. It could cause mutual reaction between the elecromagnetic field of the device and the product and lead to increased output current".

I have not read before that you should not use a cell phone near an electrical device. Are you aware of similar warnings like this for TENS and EMS? Should we be telling our patients to keep their cell phones away while on TENS or EMS? Thanks for your advice on this:) ---

Hi Barbara. A cell phone does not interfere with TENS, IFC or NMES units.

Hi Barbara Rick is correct to get CE, FDA and CFDA licensing the units must be shielded. I work for EPA manufacturer inc Stim and there is nothing in their required notifications to say not to use their devices near mobile phones Hope that helps Cliff

Barbara, what country are you based. Unless it is an old unit or poorly manufactured. External energy from a mobile phone should not have ability to affect the device. Even the most basic electrical CE compliant devices are shielded.
